Warhammer 40k - Genestealer Cults
Genestealer Cults are a Xenos faction in Warhammer 40k, produced by Games Workshop, and use a combination of guile and brute force to outmanoeuvre their opposition
A Genestealer Cult is the end product of an alien Tyranid Genestealer infiltrating an unsuspecting population, usually as a stowaway on unsuspecting space freighters. From this first Genestealer Prime, they convert with force, politics, religion and persuasion. Often leveraging the horrible worker conditions on an Imperial planet to convert unwitting labourers to eventually site revolution.
A cult’s ultimate purpose in life is to grow large enough to summon a Tyranid Hive Fleet: a process that takes generations. Thanks to the insidious genes being constantly passed down as the cult grows, their obedience to their alien master is absolute, and will seek to induce planetary anarchy once they catch a Hive Fleet’s attention; softening any defenders up ahead of time, and will gladly perish as the world is subsequently stripped of biomass.
A Genestealer Cult army embodies Guerrilla tactics and misdirection to deploy its troops where they need to be, as well as reposition others once their current task is done. Their dedicated melee units are especially deadly, and their insidious relationship with a planet’s local population means both industrial rock crushing equipment and Astra Militarum vehicles may appear alongside a cult army. Depending on the influence this faction can gather, entire battalions of once-loyal Imperial Guard are converted to the Genestealer cult!
