Mirelurk is a catch-all term for a variety of heavily mutated crustacean or turtle species. Among the first mutants to be encountered, they are tenacious survivors, heavily armoured and extremely deadly for anything too slow to outrun them.
Hatchlings are the first stage of a Mirelurk's life, and a nest may contain vast numbers of eggs, most are either too weak to hatch or survive. But as long as some of them reach adulthood, there is little love lost in the colony for the ones that do not survive.
In spite of their low status within a colony's structure, Hatchlings are nonetheless a rapidly multiplying swarm that may become extremely aggressive when threatened, making them more dangerous than their diminutive size suggests.
