The Storm mounts the powerful long-range AT-6 Spiral anti-tank missile on the MT-LB armoured gun tractor. This combination makes for a low profile anti-tank vehicle that is hard to detect in well-concealed ambush positions. The Storm supplements the AT-5 Spandrel antitank vehicles used by anti-tank units. However, as a superior anti-tank weapon, Storm equipped units are intended to stop enemy armoured breakthroughs.
The Soviet Union's most powerful forces are stationed in East Germany and Czechoslovakia, poised on the border with West Germany ready to strike at a moment's notice.
